David was used by God to be the principal character in one of the most famous epic battles in the scriptures-David versus Goliath. Yet it was the battle to create a culture of honesty that wreaked havoc on the Kingdom of Israel. All of David’s men were complicit in his murder of Uriah, adultery with Bathsheba and the entire cover up that led to the sword always being a part of his house. Not having a culture where truth clothed in love, compassion, humility and gentleness can lead to unspeakable consequences. It took a prophet in Nathan to speak the truth that led David to repentance. Are we willing to be a Nathan to others? Who will you invite to be a Nathan to you?
The kingdom falls when people go quiet. People knew what King David was doing and no one stood up to him, they kept quiet.
** If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything **
The battle for honesty is moving towards God’s truth. There are battles that get in the way of speaking God’s truth. Do we allow others to be honest with us? Even small kids knows how to lie to spear others feeling, so we do not speak the truth.
The church needs to be full of God’s truth. We can come as we are but we should not be allowed to stay as we are.
As disciples we should not lie to each other because that is from our old sinful nature.
When we as a church see things that are wrong and stay silent, we give people consent and permission to be and stay the way that they are and eventually it becomes apart of our culture.
How safe are you?
Are we willing to accept truth from others?
Without God’s truth we don’t have anything.
Do you question God’s love?
Do you question God’s plan?
Do you question God’s power?
How do we approach people?
When we are telling the truth we need to be loving, show compassion, and kindness.
What battles do we need to fight for honesty today?
